In the pottery wheel course, you will have the opportunity to create pieces that you can later decorate with surprising effects in our raku course. Alternatively, you can work on that unique design project you’ve been imagining and drawing inspiration from, to later use it as a prototype and create a mold in our plaster mold-making course.
How are we going to work:
BEGINNER LEVEL:
– Learn to knead the clay; center the clay on the wheel; build basic shapes such as cylinders, bowls, plates;
– Review and practice of trimming techniques and finishes;
– Making and attaching handles and feet
– Introduction to decoration with engobes and methods of application: using a bulb syringe, marbling, sgraffito, mishima, stencils, brush, sponge;
– Solving common problems that can arise when working on the wheel.
ADVANCED LEVEL:
– Understand the properties and characteristics of different types of clay: terracotta, stoneware, and porcelain
– Throwing in two parts, adding lids, and constructing closed forms
– Solutions on how to solve and avoid some common problems
– Decorative techniques: sodium silicate, colored engobes, and slip
– Working on serial production and understanding the power of repetition to find your unique touch, your own and consistent style
